POINT2POINT Challenge MTB - the Original
The POINT2POINT Challenge MTB starts from the car park below the Cape Point Light House within the Cape of Good Hope Section of the Table Mountain National Park.The start line is the exposed aggregate speed bump after the broad asphalt section (as per the picture alongside).
Don't forget to start your STRAVA!Head out of the car park direction north, returning on the road to the Park gate - Cape of Good Hope Drive.
At the Park gate, exit and pass through the circle.
At the intersection, turn left onto Plateau Street (M65) direction Scarborough/Kommetjie.
Proceed on the M65 for 9 kms.
When you reach the Curio market on your right, take Red Hill Road turn off.
Climb Red Hill.At the summit continue along Red Hill road and at the Pine Haven turn off (approx. 25km into your Challenge) turn left in the direction of Lewis Gay Dam.
After approx. 3 kms, the tar road terminates where you will proceed left onto the gravel road passing the Lewis Gay dam on your left.
Continue north east on the well marked MTB marked single track in the direction of Glencairn. Once you descend into the Glencairn vicinity, cross the wetland and proceed on the gravel single track, heading north east along the switchbacks up towards the ridge.
The single track will converge onto a jeep track and after approximately 5 kms you will come out at the top Glencairn Expressway(M6).
Turn left.
Continue down the Glencairn Expressway, through the 4 way stop on to Ou Kaapse Weg Road (M64).
Climb up Ou Kaapse Weg until you reach the intersection of Silvermine Road.
Approx. 200 m after the Silvermine Road turn off, take the Ou Wapad gravel road back into the Silvermine Nature Reserve section of Table Mountain National Park.
Follow the trail for approx. 6 kms until you reach the main entrance to the Silvermine Nature Reserve car park.
Proceed up Silvermine Reservoir Road (tar) for approx. 1.5kms.
On your right there will be a gravel road which will provide access to the Tokai MTB trails section (commencing at Level 5).
Follow this route and descend.
Where the track splits take the right hand route (the beginning of the Broken Road aka The Beast). You will pass the entrance to the Boulders route on your right. DO NOT take this route (as it will take you off POINT2POINT Challenge MTB route!)Proceed on to the 'Snake Trails'.
Follow the Snake Trails to the end of the Tokai MTB trails, exiting into Tokai Road.
Continue down Tokai Road and at the intersection turn left into Orpen Road and then right onto Dennedal Avenue to access the cycling path along the perimeter of the eastern section of Tokai Forest.
Enter the M3 Green Belt section.
Continue along the Green Belt section until you emerge. Peddlars & Co. restaurant will be directly in front of you.
Continue passing Peddlars on your right down Brounger Lane and then onto Green belt single track, to the right.
Continue until you reach Constantia Road and cross at the pedestrian crossing onto the Silverhurst Trail.
Proceed up the Green belt, cross over the river into Silverhurst Avenue and proceed to Southern Cross Drive.
On Southern Cross Drive, turn right to access the lane that joins Southern Cross to Picardie Avenue.
Continue north on Picardie Avenue, cross Rathfelder Avenue and ride the single track around Brommersvlei Wetland Park.
Across the wetland, get back on to Rathfelder Avenue, heading right and then left into Beauvais Avenue
At the end of Beauvais Avenue, turn left onto the Dieprivier Trail. Continue on the Diepriver Trail, crossing Bel' Ombre Road where you will enter the Alphen Trail. Continue on the single track all the way to Southern Cross Drive Rhodes avenue intersection.
Exiting the single track follow Southern Cross Drive to Rhodes Drive where you cross over and re enter Table Mountain National Park, Cecelia Forest section.
Continue up the Contour path and direction Constantia Nek and then switch back onto the Kirstenbosch loop.
Take the Kirstenbosch loop Mountain Biking Trail (approx. 8km) above Kirstenbosch and descend to Union Avenue (M3) .
On exiting the Park at Union Avenue, ride on the bicycle track (approx. 2 km) to the gate to Rhodes Memorial.
As Rhodes Memorial Road is currently closed to vehicular traffic, you will need to portage your bike over the pedestrian turnstile.
Once through the gate, take the single track on the left (immediately after the main gate. Pass the dam on your left and continue up to a clearing.
Turn right and continue directly ahead for 400m
This will bring you back onto the tar at the top of what is known as the Rhodes Mem '2 minute Hill' tar section!
Continue on the tar for approx. 1 km until you see the gravel road turn off to your left (Tafelberg Road Route (originating above UCT) direction Kings Block House).
Continue with this route following the switchbacks and proceed toward Tafelberg Road ( DO NOT go to the Block House unless you feel the need to ride the additional distance and complete the additional climb!)
Proceed on Tafelberg Road past the Table Mountain Cableway station and down to Camps Bay Drive traffic circle (Kloof Nek).
Proceed through the circle and onto Signal Hill Drive.
After approx. 1.5k take the path left onto the marked MTB single track (Lion's Head Path) descending Lions Head direction Sea Point.
After single track descent there is a short sharp ascent to Arcadia Road.
Proceed on to Arcadia Road (now on tar) and descend to Ocean View Drive... the end is in sight!
First left onto Avenue Coeur de Lion, then right onto Avenue Protea, left onto Avenue Saint Louis, through a right and left turn and then right onto Avenue Le Sueur.Left onto Avenue La Croix.At Kloof Road turn left - it is a very short ascent to Kings Road on your right... turn right.Descend Kings Road looking to turn left into Rochester Road...On Rochester Road turn right onto Queens Road, over Victoria Road and then through the Regent/Queens Road traffic circle on to the Beach Road traffic circle.Exit the Beach Road traffic circle with the sea on your left - just 2 kms to go!Follow Beach Road through Sea Point and at the Three Anchor Bay traffic lights, turn left...
The Green Point Lighthouse will be 400m ahead of you.
Cross the tar strip directly in line with the Green Point Light House and 'touch' the sign 'Green Point Lighthouse'
