Inspired by the ideaof mountain biking the length of the Peninsula - from Cape Point (the south eastern most point) to Green Point (the north western most point) and traversing Table Mountain National Park and Table Mountain - in a single attempt - the POINT2POINT Challenge has evolved into an 'always on' self supported individual/small group cycling 'event' challenging average plus riders of all ages to attempt and complete this a one-of-a-kind bike riding experience.
Modeled along the lines of the now very popular 13 Peaks Challenge for trail runners, the POINT2POINT Challenge is designed for 'weekend warriors' wanting to pit themselves against a really 'Epic' style challenge experience but without the pressure of a race.
TheOriginal POINT2POINT Challenge MTBroute * is designed for mountain/ trail able bikes and riders - a 98 km route, 50%+ traversing TMNP single track/trails, taking in over 2100+ m of climbing.
Two additional 'official' routes supplement the MTB Challenge, suitable not only for MTB riders but in fact any rider on any mode of bike:
ThePOINT2POINT Challenge ROAD* - an '84 km ‘all tar’ ride taking in many of the Cape Peninsula's biggest climbs (1300 m odd vertical) as well as offering some of the most spectacularly scenic wide shoulder road riding that the Cape Peninsula has on offer,
ThePOINT2POINT Challenge LITE* - similarly 74km of beautifully scenic ‘all tar’ riding with just over 950m of breathless 'vista' climbing, as you take in some of the world acclaimed Cape Town Cycle Tour (legacy Argus Tour) route, the famed Chapman's Peak and Suikerbossie climbs
Once done, successful POINT2POINT Challengers log their results to appear on the POINT2POINT Challenge WALL of FAME !
Successful Challengers can also join the Members Only Category Leaderboard where participating results are curated into categories - by Challenge, gender and bike type - ranked by fastest time. A small fee is levied the proceeds of which go toward administration and POINT2POINT Challenge identified Table Mountain and environs cycling related causes.
Our hope in setting up the POINT2POINT Challenge is that not only will it provide a 'fresh challenge' local riders to test themselves against but also, over time, may become known as one of the Western Cape's top 5 cycling 'bucket list' to-do's - #capetownsmostbeautifulcyclingchallenge
In working towards this vision we hope to not only inspire but also generate many opportunities for broader Cape Town and environs cyclo-tourism!
